My advice for Mercure Norton Grange Hotel & Spa: I have just experienced the worst afternoon tea I've ever had, very sub-standard. My daughter took me for a treat and all I can say is that I was very very disappointed. On arrival we was asked to wait in the bar area, we was there 10 minuets before anyone arrived to serve us, the place was like a ghost town. Although the lady who did eventually serve us was very polite the overall food we received was less than average. The afternoon tea was served in the bar area that looked like it could do with an overall deep clean. The pots milk jug was chipped, the room itself cold, the air conditioning vent was dripping at the bar onto the floor creating a pool of water with no sign warning customers of the hazard. I mentioned this to the staff who stated they knew about the situation and maintenance had been called, yet still this area was left open to the public. The table where we sat was scratched and the room itself was very dated and tired. The sandwiches were basic, just normal brown and white bread (no other varieties), cut into 3 finger slices. These consisted of cheese, salmon, chicken and beef (however both meats looked and tasted like pre-packed cheap cooked meat). Non of the cakes looked or tasted like fresh cakes. They looked and tasted like pre bought shop cake that had been cut into block squares. Range given was poor with pre-creamed and jammed shop bought mini scones (but then these came with clotted cream and jam, not sure why if you are going to serve pre-made up scones). All caked were served cold, straight from the fridge. Overall this was one of the most disappointing afternoon cream teas I've had.
