An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Web/Digital Designer to join our team based in Nottingham. You will work on a full time, permanent basis. In return you will receive a highly competitive salary of £21,500 - £24,000 per annum.

The University of Nottingham Students’ Union exists to enable every student at the University of Nottingham to fulfil their potential and to have the most incredible experience at University.

Formally, we’re a registered charity that acts as the recognised representative body of all students at the University.  Overseen by our Trustees, we have Student Officers who are elected each year who are the voice of our students and bring fresh ideas each year to drive us to deliver our strategic goals.

The Students' Union employs over two hundred staff; around half of our staff are students who balance work with their studies and social lives.  Other staff work full-time, some are part-time and some are required only during term-time and thus work for just part of the year.

The main purpose of the Web/Digital Designerrole:

To manage and maintain the digital branding of the Students’ Union ensuring quality is consistent throughout the organisation. Provide the artistic direction of website design and campaigns from initial concepts to the final product through a creative development process; ensuring student groups are kept engaged and excited through your digital design. Ensuring the visuals of the Union (including website, social media and email) are kept fresh and ideas answer the brief.

AsWeb/Digital Designeryour main accountabilities will include:

- Work with marketing colleagues to monitor, evaluate maintain and develop the Student Union’s digital presence.

- Ensure digital content, design and layout remains relevant to our audience’s needs and expectations  

- Work with clients to advise the best outcome for their requested marketing campaign. Interpret and challenge client’s project briefs while maintaining good relationships.

- Communicate with clients with varying levels of understanding during the briefing and design process

- Take the lead in creating concepts and digital designs which engage the spirit of the student audience and adheres to SU brand guidelines and messages

- Monitor all artwork to ensure it adheres to the brand guidelines and ensure is kept consistent when campaigns are created and use quality control processes

- Develop and update HTML emails, landing pages and websites.

- Keep up to date on the latest design trends to ensure designs are not out-dated

- Use innovative approaches to maximise online engagement and experience across multiple devices, sourcing external services where appropriate.

Essential skills and experience needed as our Web/Digital Designer:

- BA Hons in Graphic Design

- Minimum of 3 years previous experience in a Graphic design role

- Experience of working within and applying brand guidelines, ensuring consistent application across own work and the work of others

- Experience of working to deadlines across multiple projects, yet still delivering high quality output

- Experience of interpreting design briefs and delivering pixel perfect digital assets output (for websites, app etc) that is in line with the expectations of both the client and intended audience.

- Strong portfolio that includes animation, video, vector based artwork, photo manipulation, HTML emails, landing pages and website design

- Experience working with Wordpress

- Up to date with the latest digital design trends

- Excellent knowledge of Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After effects and other Adobe Creative suite software

- Ability to convert designs from PSD/Sketch to HTML & CSS with a focus on responsive web 

- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with an ability to prioritise and pre-empt how long pieces of work will take

- Excellent attention to detail, checking own work and work of others to main quality control.

- Working knowledge of associated legislation such as copyright, intellectual property

- General marketing knowledge, plus the ability to use the web as a marketing tool.

To develop and lead the implementation of the Students’ Union’s insight service plan, to position evidence-based, student-driven insight at the heart of Union priorities, strategy and activities.

 

AsCustomer Insight Manager your main accountabilities will include:

 

- Maintain and build the insight department, through setting, implementing and monitoring of departmental objectives, service plans and budget.

 

- Embed a culture of evidence-based action across Students’ Union departments.

 

- Establish and maintain an organisational-wide performance monitoring ‘segmentation’ dashboard that enhances existing processes

 

- Direct line management responsibilities

 

- Proactively and continuously review the strategic and operational insight needs of Students’ Union departments

 

- Collect relevant student insights using a range of innovative and appropriate qualitative and quantitative research methods.

 

- Assess current and future student trends, issues, needs, behaviours and perspectives of union service provision and activities to fully understand the audience.

 

- Support the development of the membership database and website platform, leading on new improvements to meet members’ needs.

 

- Produce insight findings reports that offer practical and actionable recommendations to engage a range of stakeholders  and that can build the Students’ Union’s reputation.

 

- Develop external partnerships

 

Essential skills and experience needed as our Customer Insight Manager:

 

- A research based degree or qualification/or significant relevant research or insight expertise.

 

- Experience of working within an insight/research role and Experience of working within an insight/research role.

 

- Experience of budget construction and budget management.

 

- Demonstrable experience of project planning and management.

 

- Experience of managing staff.

 

- Ability to analyse data and complex information to inform evidence based decision working as well as to research and develop insight with wider context and draw on existing research

 

- Experience of working with data management system and/or CRM system.

 

- Awareness of the use of effective marketing and communications.

 

- Awareness of current insight/research trends and methodologies.

 

-Ability to use data and web management systems and/or CRM systems to support data management, analysis, customer experience feedback and tracking

 

- Willingness to travel to different locations
