About Purolite: 


Purolite is the 2nd largest ion exchange manufacturer globally and is the only company dedicated to resin technology. Purolite has been rapidly expanding into the life sciences market and has currently one pilot scale facility in Llantrisant which has been operation since 2014 manufacturing agarose based chromatography resins. To meet increased demand for agarose products Purolite has recently started 7 day a week production on pilot scale and requires production operators to work in the current and second pilot plant.


About the role:


The operators will be producing agarose resin products in accordance to ISO9001 and pharmaceutical standards.


The process involves state of the art equipment to successfully manufacture high value specialty products.


Operators will be working a 4 day on 4 day off shift pattern of day shifts only (7:00 – 18:00). 


The operators must be willing to learn new skills and take on a new and exciting challenge. 


The positions are paid on a daily rate Monday to Friday, 1.5x rate at weekends, 2x bank holidays with additional TOIL.


Requirements:


Available to work shift patterns comprising a 4 day on, 4 day off rota – day shifts only.


Able to manually handle raw materials, products and equipment up to 25 kg.


Handle hazardous chemicals in accordance to strict H&S policies.


Basic computer competency.


Manufacture in accordance with ISO9001 and pharmaceutical guidelines to ensure a high-quality product.


Production experience in pharmaceutical or food environments is desirable.

Application Scientist - Biocatalysis

Location: Llantrissant, South Wales


Hours:Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4.:30pm


Salary: £30,000 per annum plus benefits


Our client is the leading manufacturer of quality ion exchange, catalyst, adsorbent and specialty high-performance resins, As part of their rapid expansion they now require an Application Scientist - Biocatalysis.


Application Scientist summary


The successful candidate will have a significant contribution to the R&D projects performed within the Life Sciences Application group of the business.


One of the main roles will be to develop suitable enzyme immobilisation methods using Purolite resins and commercially available or customer specific enzymes. He or she will optimise the immobilisation methods and transfer them to pilot or plant scale, developing the relevant analytical methods to evaluate the performance of the immobilisation. Alongside the biocatalysis role, the candidate will be contributing to characterisation and applications using chromatographic synthetic resins. The successful candidate will work closely with the R&D and Commercial teams, in product development and customer interactions, will produce technical reports to present internally and externally and will represent the business at major conferences.


Essential Requirements:

Degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or chemical engineering.


Experience in chromatographic techniques, such as HPLC/UPLC/FPLC, GC and analytical techniques, such as UV/Vis, IR, and wet chemistry techniques.


Good understanding of proteins and enzymes.


Good understanding of column chromatographic techniques such as reverse phase and ion exchange chromatography.


Must be a self-motivated person who is methodical, organised and has excellent attention to detail.


Ability to work both in a team and independently.


Effective communication skills are essential as role requires co-ordination of work with peers and customers.


Desirable Requirements:

Industrial experience in using proteins or enzymes.


Experience in performing enzymatic biocatalytic processes.


Experience in performing enzyme immobilisation.


Experience working under a quality management system in an ISO: 9001, FDA or MHRA regulated laboratory.


Experience in packing chromatographic media into columns.


Experience in scaling up processes from R&D to pilot or plant scale.


PhD degree.
